Eucalyptus Interchange

A Project Study Report is being developed to examine the feasibility of an interchange with Interstate 15 at Eucalyptus Street in Hesperia. The new interchange is planned to be located between Main Street to the south and Bear Valley Road to the north. Eucalyptus would provide a much-needed alternative to Bear Valley Road, which currently is the primary exit to the regional mall in the High Desert and a major street that serves Hesperia, Victorville and portions of Apple Valley.

The Project Study Report is being funded by the City of Hesperia with Measure I dollars, with the city serving as the lead agency. Once completed, Eucalyptus Street would serve travelers to the east of I-15 in Hesperia and to the west of I-15 in Victorville.

Preparation of the Project Study Report began in May 2002 and is scheduled to be completed in early 2005. This report marks the beginning of the project. To date, no funding has been identified for future phases of the interchange project, including the Project Approval and Environmental Document phase, which is next in the sequence. Funding likely will be provided through the extension of Measure I beyond its 2010 expiration date.

Existing Infrastructure
Eucalyptus Street runs east/west in the City of Hesperia. It ends at a T-intersection at Boxwood Avenue/Topaz Avenue. No over/under-crossing or interchanges with I-15 exist in this location.

Project Information
The project connects Eucalyptus Street in Hesperia to Christa Way in Victorville by building a bridge over I-15. An interchange with I-15 is also planned in conjunction with the over-crossing construction.

Project Need
Main Street and Bear Valley Road provide the only interchanges with and crossings over I-15. As there are almost four miles between these two interchanges, the project adds a much needed crossing over and interchange with I-15 for the Cities of Hesperia and Victorville.

Project Schedule
The Project Study Report (PSR) is scheduled to be completed in early 2005. There is no approved schedule beyond the PSR.

Project Funding
No funding has been programmed because the PSR has not been completed. The Expenditure Plan for the proposed continuation of Measure I beyond its 2010 expiration includes funding for various High Desert interchanges, including Eucalyptus, La Mesa/Nisqualli and Ranchero.
