Measure I: State Route 60 Widening & Carpool Lanes
The
widening and addition of carpool lanes to State Route 60 was one of the six original high priority freeway construction
projects approved by San Bernardino County in the passage of Measure I.
This early Measure I project added one
carpool lane and one mixed-flow lane for 10 miles from the Los Angeles
County line to Interstate 15 in San Bernardino County. The new lanes extend
through the cities of Ontario and Chino, as well as the unincorporated
area of the county.
SANBAG and Caltrans worked cooperatively to obtain the $40
million in State Transportation Improvement Program funds necessary to
construct these improvements. Caltrans administered the design and construction
of these lanes, which opened to traffic in 1997.
