Measure I:
I-10 Westbound Widening -Yucaipa

freeway workFinal design of a new lane on westbound Interstate 10 between Yucaipa and Redlands began September, 2007. This project will add a general purpose lane to the westbound section of I-10 between Live Oak Canyon Road in Yucaipa and Ford Street in Redlands. The lane will help relieve traffic congestion on this heavily traveled stretch of freeway, which typically experiences slow-downs on weekday mornings.

To add this lane and ensure proper motorist sight distances, an extensive cut-back of the hillside north of the freeway is required between Yucaipa Boulevard and Wabash Avenue. No improvements to ramps, bridges or interchanges are included in this project. Some temporary construction easements will be needed, but no permanent right-of-way acquisition is required.

SANBAG received environmental clearance for this project in June 2007. A contract for final design was awarded in September 2007. Final design should take about 18 to 24 months. Construction could begin in 2010 and last about 18 months.

Project costs are approximately $43 million. Funding is provided by the state’s Proposition 1B Corridor Mobility Improvement Account ($26.5 million) and Measure I ($16.7 million).
