Measure I
Foothill Freeway - What to Expect During Construction

Cactus channelThroughout construction of State Route 210, SANBAG and Caltrans worked together to minimize disruptions to the community. While the freeway is substantially complete, some work will continue through late 2007. Please anticipate the following:

  • Traffic – Depending on the nature of construction activity in individual neighborhoods, traffic may increase or decrease. Some partial and full street closures are planned. SANBAG is working with the cities of Rialto and San Bernardino to plan detour routes, erect signs and change the timing of traffic signals to maintain the flow of vehicles through this area. Drivers should plan ahead of time and drive slowly and carefully through construction zones. Please watch for construction workers and vehicles and observe all traffic signs.
  • Noise – SANBAG requires all construction equipment to meet Caltrans noise standards and to be properly maintained. In addition, the early construction of sound walls in certain areas will help control the noise impact to neighborhoods. Local noise ordinances that limit the hours of construction will be followed.
  • Utility Relocation – This freeway project will require the relocation of utility lines. Much of this work will be completed early in the project. The relocation of utilities may require street trenching and brief closures of travel lanes.
  • Notification – People living or working near State Route 210 should expect to receive meeting notices, traffic advisories and newsletters about the project. Information will be mailed or delivered to homes and businesses on a regular basis. To be placed on the mailing list, call the project helpline, 1-866-HELP-210.
  • Dust – During construction, dirt must be moved within the freeway corridor. Water trucks will be used to reduce the amount of dust caused by the grading and excavation. In addition, some sound walls will be completed prior to the dirt excavation, which will help reduce community dust.
  • Rancho Verde Shopping PlazaBusinesses – Local shopping centers and individual businesses near State Route 210 will remain open during construction. Shoppers are encouraged to continue to visit these businesses. Access to parking lots and driveways may change. Please watch for signs regarding access to and from area businesses.
