Measure I 210 Freeway
Last 8 Miles (Stage II ) Rialto and San Bernardino

Paving the 210 near RialtoThe construction of the last eight miles of Route 210 in Rialto and San Bernardino started in 2003. This work was divided into two stages. Stage I work began in July 2003 and ended in March 2005. Stage II work started in early 2005 and was substantially complete by the freeway opening date, July 24, 2007. Some construction activities will remain underway through late 2007. Other construction work will occur in the future under separate contracts. The stage II work was completed under two construction contracts that totaled $146 million. Activities included:

  • Implementation of the Highland Avenue detour between Ayala Drive and Riverside Avenue in Rialto (started February 14, 2005; removed upon freeway completion in July 2007 ).
  • Construction of the Lilac Avenue pedestrian bridge in Rialto
    (Completed August 2006)
  • New bridge construction at:
    - Cactus Avenue, Rialto (Completed March 2006)
    - Highland Avenue, Rialto (Completed September 2006)
    - Pepper Avenue, Rialto (Completed May 2006)
    - Lytle Creek Wash, San Bernardino (Completed June 2007)
    - State Street, San Bernardino (Completed April 2006)
    - California Street, San Bernardino (Completed June 2007)
    - Highland Avenue, San Bernardino (Completed August 2006)
    - 27th Street, San Bernardino (Completed June 2007)
  • Widening and retrofit of existing Burlington Northern Santa Fe bridge at Cajon Boulevard (Completed in September 2006 )
  • Widening of the existing bridge at Little Mountain Drive
     (Completed September 2006)
  • Realignment of Highland Avenue between Riverside Avenue and Pepper Avenue
    (Completed September 2006)
  • Widening of separation between Route 210 and Interstate 215
    (Completed September 2006 )
  • Reconstruction of existing loop ramps at the Route 210/Interstate 215 interchange (Completed November 2006 )
  • Construction of a storm drain system beneath State Street in San Bernardino
    (Portion from Baseline to Highland Avenue completed; additional construction underway and will continue through Fall 2007 )
  • Construction of 12 retaining walls, including three mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls and one tieback retaining wall (Completed February 2007 )
  • Construction of five sound walls in San Bernardino (Completed June 2007)
  • Local street improvements near the freeway corridor in San Bernardino
    (Completed, various dates)
  • Construction of cul de sacs on Acacia Avenue south of Route 210, Macy Street north of Route 210, Washington Street west of State Street and 19th Street east of State Street (Completed December 2006)
  • Construction of on-ramps and off-ramps at Ayala Drive, Riverside Avenue and State Street (Completed July 2007)
  • Excavation of dirt and other earthwork throughout the freeway corridor (Excavation completed in Spring, 2007)
  • Freeway lane paving and striping (Completed July 2007)
  • Installation of signs and lights and other finish work
