San Bernardino County Transportation Monitoring Program
As
a leading proponent of a single integrated regional monitoring program,
SANBAG participated with other regional, state and federal agencies to
develop a multi-phased regional Highway Performance Monitoring System
(HPMS) to serve the southern California region. SANBAG has coordinated
traffic census data collection from local agencies and Caltrans and continues
to collect data needed to allow the tracking of transportation system
performance levels.
The HPMS is designed to meet the data needs of the transportation forecasting process, congestion management activities related to the State Congestion Management Program and Federal Congestion Management System/Traffic Monitoring Program, and performance-based transportation planning and programming activities at SANBAG and elsewhere in the region.
To accomplish this, SANBAG participates in the Inter-County Congestion Management Group-Traffic Data Task Force to identify methods and procedures to complete data collection requirements on transportation system performance. In cooperation with local agencies and subject to funding availability, SANBAG will establish an implementation plan for a countywide transportation monitoring program, coordinated and compatible with the regional program, and maintain a database.
