West Valley Truck Study
SANBAG,
the Western Riverside Council of Governments, the Riverside County Transportation
Commission and Southern California Association of Governments are working
cooperatively on a West Valley Truck Study. This study, initiated in
January 2003, is designed to develop strategies and planning tools to
improve truck access to intermodal facilities and other truck activity
centers in the west end of the Inland Empire valley. The scope of the
study extends from the Interstate 15 corridor to the Los Angeles County
line.
The West Valley Truck Study represents an extension of regional goods movement goals and includes participation from city and county member agencies, the California Trucking Association and other interested parties. The study is expected to be completed in fall 2003. Study tasks and products include:

Truck Study.
Product: Stakeholder participation, agendas and minutes, list of participants and occasional working papers - Task 2: Compile information on designated truck routes and
truck restrictions within the local jurisdictions throughout the
study area,
along with existing truck counts and truck classification data.
Product: Working paper documenting truck routes and truck restrictions, with supporting GIS map and compilation of existing truck count and classification data. - Task 3: Collect data on truck trip generation rates by facility
type to supplement and support trip forecasting capabilities and for
comparative analysis of trends in the movement of goods within the Inland
Empire.
Product: Working paper on truck trip generation rates by facility type. - Task 4: Collect origin/destination data from shippers and
carriers to support upgrades of the travel demand model in forecasting
regional
and subregional heavy duty truck trips.
Product: Working paper on origin-destination data from shipper/carrier survey - Task 5: Identify roadway and operational impediments to efficient
truck movement within the study area.
Product: List and description of roadway and operational impediments to efficient truck movement - Task 6: Collect, as needed, additional traffic and vehicle
classification counts at critical locations for refinement of the regional
and subregional
travel demand model and other regional truck movement analysis.
Product: Working paper integrating additional data and classification counts with pre-existing data from Task 2. - Task 7: Compile and complete study final report and presentation materials.
