Victor Valley Area Transportation Study
In 2006, SANBAG commissioned a study of long range transportation needs in the Victor Valley, including freeways, interchanges and major streets that run through Adelanto, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victorville and unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County. The study was completed in March 2008. A copy of the Final Report and its Appendices are available.
Consultants Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. worked with the staff of SANBAG, Caltrans, San Bernardino County and the Victor Valley jurisdictions to:
- Analyze land use and circulation plans throughout the area
- Recommend the size of future roadways and interchanges based on models of forecast traffic counts
- Determine the alignment and right-of-way preservation needs for proposed new and expanded roadways and interchanges
- Establish the technical basis for policy decisions on the prioritization of Measure I 2010-2040 expenditures
- Develop a financial plan and right-of-way preservation plan.
The need for this type of study is highlighted by rapid the growth of population and employment in the Victor Valley. The population is projected to grow to 650,000 by 2030 from its current size of 335,000. Residents typically commute longer distances to work and experience worse traffic conditions than residents of other areas of San Bernardino County. Bear Valley Road, Palmdale Road, Apple Valley Road, Hesperia Road, State Route 18 and US Highway 395 all are subject to frequent traffic congestion.
