Regional Transportation Plan
The Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), a 20-year transportation blueprint adopted by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), outlines a long-range strategy to meet mobility, financial, and air quality requirements. This plan must show how the region will meet federal air quality standards and other needs based on realistic estimates of transportation funding. Only programs and projects outlined in the final document are eligible for state and federal funding.
The RTP is updated every three years. On May 8, 2008, the Regional Council of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) adopted the 2008 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP): Making the Connections.
The 2008 RTP is a $531.5 billion Plan (nominal, or year-of-expenditure, dollars) that emphasizes the importance of system management, goods movement, and innovative transportation financing. It strives to provide a regional investment framework to address the region's transportation and related challenges, and looks to strategies that preserve and enhance the existing transportation system and integrate land use into transportation planning.
