Ground-breaking ceremony for I-10 Live Oak Canyon Road Interchange Project in Yucaipa set for Sept. 28

Grab a shovel, hard hat and saddle shoes. Local transportation officials will mark the start of work on to replace the Interstate 10 Live Oak Canyon Road interchange in Yucaipa with a ground-breaking ceremony on September 28 at 10 a.m.

The City of Yucaipa, San Bernardino Associated Governments and Caltrans will host the outdoor ceremony, which will be held on east side of the Yucaipa Park & Ride lot, located at 31341 Hampton Road. The ceremony is open to the public; comfortable shoes are recommended.

Speakers will include Senator Robert Dutton, Assembly Member Paul Cook, San Bernardino County 3rd District Supervisor Dennis Hansberger, Yucaipa Mayor Richard Riddell, SANBAG President and Barstow Mayor Lawrence Dale and Caltrans District 8 Director Mike Perovich. Following the presentations, officials will don hard hats and take turns lifting shovels of dirt to symbolize the beginning of the newest interchange construction project in San Bernardino County.

The project will include reconstruction of the road between Calimesa Boulevard and Outer Highway South and replacement of the current two-lane bridge with a new five-lane bridge. Eastbound and westbound ramps also will be widened and realigned, and traffic signals will be installed at each of the new on and off ramps. The project is estimated to take 18 to 24 months to complete, contingent upon good weather and no unexpected construction difficulties.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $20 million and will be funded through a combination of State, City of Yucaipa general and development impact fee funds, and local Measure I funds. Measure I is San Bernardino County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements.
