Metrolink to debut Saturday Late-Night Service
from Los Angeles to San Bernardino
Saturday night’s all right for riding – the Metrolink train that is. Metrolink’s long-awaited Saturday late-night service from Los Angeles Union Station to San Bernardino will start September 9, giving train riders another alternative to driving.
The late-night run is a first for Metrolink. Currently, the last train on Saturday nights departs Union Station at 8:30 p.m. and arrives in San Bernardino at 10:11 p.m. The new late train will leave Union Station at 11:15 p.m. and reach San Bernardino at 12:45 a.m.
“Metrolink riders have been asking for this late-night service for a long time,” said Diane Williams, Rancho Cucamonga’s mayor pro tem and member of the San Bernardino Associated Governments Board of Directors and Commuter Rail Committee. “This service will allow riders more time to visit friends and family members, go to plays, sporting events and even to the fair, knowing that they can afford the hassles of traffic, parking and gas prices.”
Originally set to begin in October, the service was moved up to September to accommodate visitors to the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona. A special train platform at Fairplex makes it easy for fair-goers to board the train at 11:59 p.m. headed for San Bernardino.
The train will stop at 12 stations along the route, including Fairplex in Pomona. Click here to view the schedule.
For fares and other schedules, go to www.metrolinktrains.com. Fares are reduced on weekends, and children five years and under ride free with a paid adult.
The late-night service – plus two new weekend trains that were added on the San Bernardino Line – is funded by SANBAG.
“The service is fully funded for this fiscal year,” said Mike Bair, SANBAG’s director of transit and rail programs. “We will monitor the passenger rates throughout the year.”
