San Bernardino County Carpool Lanes
San Bernardino
County has 51.4 miles of carpool lanes, with plans for the construction
of an additional 36miles in the near future. These lanes
are part of the larger Southern California carpool lane network, which
accounts for more than 654 lane miles in the metropolitan area. Most
of
the county's carpool lanes have been designed and constructed with funding
from San Bernardino County's half-cent sales tax, Measure
I, as well as other federal and state funding sources.
In San Bernardino County, 51.4 miles of carpool lanes are in operation along three separate freeways:
-
A 9.9-mile segment of Interstate 10 in Ontario and Montclair that opened in January 2000.
-
8.5-miles State Route 71, the Chino Valley Freeway that opened in 1997.
-
A 10-mile segment of State Route 60 in Chino, Ontario, and the unincorporated area of San Bernardino County that opened in 1997.
-
A 23-mile section of State Route 210 from Upland to San Bernardino that opened in various segments between 2001 and 2007.
SANBAG is currently working with Caltrans to fund and construct an additional 36 miles of carpool lanes along the following corridors:
-
A 6-mile segment on Interstate 215 is under construction through downtown San Bernardino.
-
A 4-mile segment on Interstate 215 from the Riverside County line north to Interstate 10 through Grand Terrace and Colton.
-
A 26-mile segment on Interstate 10 between Ontario and Redlands is undergoing engineering and environmental studies.
