City and County Air Quality Success Stories
SANBAG
works very closely with cities and unincorporated areas within San Bernardino
County, all of which receive funds from Assembly Bill 2766. This bill
provides funds to implement programs that reduce mobile source emissions.
Cities and San Bernardino County use the funds for a variety of programs
that reduce air pollution, including:
- Trip reduction and ridesharing
- Alternative fuels and fueling infrastructure
- Advanced traffic information systems
- Bicycle programs
- Transit support programs
Excellent examples of air quality projects that have been implemented during the past few years are listed below. For more information about these and other programs provided by AB 2766, contact Michelle Kirkhoff by telephone: (909) 884-8276 or by email: mkirkhoff@sanbag.ca.gov.
Fontana's EV Charging Stations
The City of Fontana used AB 2766 funds to install electric vehicle charging
stations at City Hall and the downtown Metrolink station and to lease
electric vehicles for city employees for work purposes. Funds also support
the development of the Advanced Traveler Information Center, co-implemented
by the City of Ontario. This center now provides real-time
traffic information to commuters and provide other infrastructure upgrades
to improve local street congestion.
County of San Bernardino Rideshare Programs
The County of San Bernardino has one of the premier rideshare programs,
not only in California, but also in the nation. The county implements
this AB 2766-funded project by offering a variety of programs to employees,
including incentives to commuters to try ridesharing for a three-month
trial basis, rewards and incentives for ongoing ridesharers, a coordinated
vanpool program, telecommuting, compressed work schedules, and a guaranteed
ride home program.
City of Grand Terrace's EV Charging Stations
The City of Grand Terrace used its AB 2766 funds for electric vehicle
charging stations and leases, as well as for bike lane construction and
updating its traffic models.
